Love Is Not A Feeling

It's what you do when the feeling isn't there.

Love is not a feeling. It is generally associated with good feelings but in itself, is NOT a feeling. Because if Love were a feeling, it would be a very fickle reality and those who construed it as such would be very fickle people. Rather, Love is a decision and a commitment.

A decision and a commitment.

Which is how we can forgive…and forget the offense. It’s how we love our enemies, and turn to the other cheek. It’s how lives are transformed, how the broken become healed, and the lost, found.

With a decision and a commitment.

So Love seldom defers to its feelings. Not because Love wants something for itself. Rather, it looks for the best in and for the one loved, then commits itself to being a mover, a catalyst, a champion for them. Love looks past what appears real and sees what is. And then calls them forth into the fullness of who they really are - their very best self.

Because Love loves through the hard times. And the pain. The frustration, tears and moments of doubt. Love endures because Love believes. And, having decided to believe, commits itself to stay the course.

Even when the other doesn’t deserve this kind of commitment.

Yeah. Love is hard. Often frustrating. And is without any guarantees that the beloved will understand the Love given, or even accept it, let alone reciprocate it.

Which makes Love a fairly irrational decision.

Even so, it remains, in its very nature, a decision. A decision to seek the very best for the one loved and a commitment to seeing it through. Regardless of the cost.

Because Love, when you really think about it, costs everything. And in doing so, makes one simple, one undeniable statement: You’re worth the price.
